Outdoor Recreation Site Behavior & Risk Policy

At OARS, we are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment where all visitors can enjoy the outdoors. To ensure a positive experience for everyone, please read the following policies before your visit.

Assumption of Risk

Outdoor recreation involves inherent risks, including uneven terrain, exposure to weather, wildlife, insects, plants, and the use of trails or natural features.

By visiting our site, you acknowledge these risks and agree to participate responsibly.

All visitors assume personal responsibility for their safety and the safety of minors in their care. The site, staff, and volunteers are not liable for injuries, accidents, or property damage except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.

General Behavior Expectations

  • Treat staff, volunteers, and other visitors with respect.

  • Follow posted signage, staff instructions, and site rules at all times.

  • Alcohol, illegal substances, and disruptive behavior are prohibited.

  • Smoking and vaping are allowed only in designated areas (if applicable).

  • Pets must be leashed and under control; owners are responsible for cleanup.

Safety Conduct

To keep our site safe for everyone:

  • No throwing rocks, sticks, or other objects.

  • Do not misuse tools, equipment, or natural features in ways that may cause harm.

  • Climbing on structures, restricted areas, or off-trail exploration is prohibited unless part of a designated program.

  • Children must be supervised by a parent/guardian at all times.

Environmental Stewardship

  • Leave No Trace principles apply: pack out what you bring in.

  • Do not harm plants, wildlife, or natural features.

  • Fires are allowed only in designated areas and must be fully extinguished.

  • Respect cultural and historical features of the site.

Emergencies

  • In case of injury or emergency, call 911 and notify staff if available.

  • Follow staff directions in the event of severe weather or evacuation.

  • First aid supplies are available on site, but medical treatment is the responsibility of visitors/guardians.

Release of Liability

By entering and using this site, visitors agree to release, indemnify, and hold harmless OARS, its staff, volunteers, and property owners from any claims, damages, or liabilities arising from participation in activities on the property.
