Frequently Asked Questions

Is OARS open to the public?

Yes, OARS is open to the public for hiking the trails. Attendance for courses is open to the public, but there is a fee for the courses. You do not have to be a member to attend a course or hike the trails.

Are there benefits to being a member?

Yes! Members receive priority registration for camps and courses, are the only individuals allowed access to water activities (liability does not cover non-members), and receive invitations to members-only events like our Gala and other future fun events.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes! Though your canine family member must remain on a 6ft or shorter leash, their droppings must be picked up and removed from the premises. This is for the health and physical safety of all people and wildlife at OARS.

Can I bring a picnic basket?

Absolutely! We want the space to be a publicly accessible nature preserve. Bring a snack, a beverage, a blanket or chair, and enjoy some peace and quiet, trails, birds, bugs, and wildlife!

Are there parking and restrooms available?

Yes, and sometimes. We are currently finishing up an ADA-compliant 1/2 acre parking lot with room for 50 - 60 vehicles. We are working on a financially feasible plan for bathrooms that will exceed ADA compliance for individuals with physical restrictions. As of right now (July 2025), we will have restrooms for scheduled events, and by September, porta-potties will be regularly available until we are able to build a more permanent solution.

Can I help build trails, hold an event, or contribute to OARS?

100%! We are hoping that this venture is fueled by community and built with love and collaboration. We welcome volunteers of all kinds; whether you are a laborer, a pencil-pusher with grant or marketing skills, a teacher, or an outdoorsy-type, we have room for you to grow Cuba’s newest outdoor amenity.
